The emergency response phase for EMA may include being called at home for informational or logistical support, called to an incident scene or requested to open the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) to help coordinate resources and information in a larger incident. The sole function of the EMA during a response is to assist the first response agencies in any way they request. Usually these requests are logistical, resource based, or for information tracking and documentation of actions taken. While the EOC can be opened for any event, it is not typically needed for events lasting less than 12 hours in length.

 

The planning, training and exercise performed in the preparedness phase can significantly enhance response operations.  Likewise, after action reports based upon response activities can identify response areas that can be improved through plan review, training and exercise.  This is why it is so important to perform after action reports after every exercise and response activity of significance. 

 

HOW CAN I PREPARE A DISASTER SUPPLIES KIT?

Assemble supplies you might need to have in your safe-room or for an evacuation. Store them in an easy to carry container such as a backpack or duffle bag.

SUPPLIES YOU MAY NEED

  • Bottled Water (at least one gallon per day per person for 3 days drinking and sanitation)
  • Non perishable packaged or canned food and non electric can opener
  • Battery powered radio and NOAA weather radio and extra batteries
  • Flashlight and small tools (pliers, wrench, screwdriver)
