911 » Call Routing Information

The objective of our 911 call routing is to reduce the need to transfer 911 calls between answering points. Address based phone services (landline, Cable phone, Voice Over Internet Phone) are routed to the proper answering point based upon the 911 MSAG. This MSAG is maintained by the EMA Deputy Director.

Before 2012 all wireless calls were answered by the Huron County Sheriff’s Office and transferred to the appropriate answering point as needed.  Since 70% of all 911 calls are wireless, the 911 call takers at the Huron County Sheriff’s Office were very busy.

During 2012 we implemented a project that redirected wireless callers from specific cellular towers near the City of Norwalk directly to the City of Norwalk dispatchers.   Likewise towers near the cities of Willard and Bellevue were also redirected to their 911 call takers.   This has drastically reduced the number of unneeded 911 call transfers.
